Selvmord er ofte for udenforstående opfattet som den sidste løsning man kan ty til, hvis man ude på dybt vand og har alverdens problemer. Det er dog ikke rigtigt. Selvmord vælges ofte fordi den er den nemme løsning som fjerner alle problemer. Således også for folk med et alvorligt alkoholproblem.
Derfor er der faktisk hvert år masser af mennesker som begår selvmord på hvad vi ville kalde et meget tyndt grundlag – ikke at det som sådan skal lyde som om selvmord er helt i orden. Men man kan måske godt forstå at dødeligt syge folk, som ikke kan kureres vælger at tage deres liv, eksempelvis ved spise alle deres smertestillende piller på en gang.
Selvmord kan virke pirrende
Det at realistisk overveje et selvmord betyder oftest at en person har mistet sin evne til at tænke klart. Men det må også samtidig tolkes som en advarselslampe der lyser. Typisk er det tanker, som bunder i et manglende selvværd og som ovenfor skrevet, den hurtige løsning. Altså en følelse af at de andre nok er ligeglade, hvis jeg dør.
Alkoholikere kan let føle sig marginaliserede og fremmedgjorte overfor andre mennesker og med rette. Og netop pirres de af denne følelse, som jo konkret beviser at de er anderledes, for der er vel ikke ret mange andre som dagligt tumler med den slags spørgsmål.
På trods af at der på papiret findes mange alkoholikere, er det jo de færreste, trods alt, hvor alkohol styrer deres liv fuldstændigt. Folk der er nået så langt ud har akut behov for alkoholbehandling!
